Barred Owl Brunch
One late morning this Barred Owl was hanging out over a small pond while keeping an eye out for possible prey. It suddenly descended quietly out of sight behind some shrubs and then reappeared on a nearby tree with a meal. The Owl picked at it for a short time before swallowing it whole.
“Barred Owls eat many kinds of small animals, including squirrels, chipmunks, mice, voles, rabbits, birds (up to the size of grouse), amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates.”

WHITE IBIS - Foraging
Переглядів 1804 місяці тому
White Ibises out foraging during the early morning. "White Ibises probe for insects and crustaceans beneath the surface of wetlands. They insert their bill into soft muddy bottoms and feel for prey. When they feel something, they pinch it like a tweezer, pulling out crayfish, earthworms, marine worms, and crabs. They also stab or pinch fish, frogs, lizards, snails, and newts. Many of their prey...

A male Common Yellowthroat singing his "witchety, witchety, witchety" song. "The male sings a distinctive witchety-witchety-witchety song, about 2 seconds long, to defend the territory and attract females. They give these songs very frequently during summer, averaging as high as 125 songs per hour and sometimes reaching 300 songs per hour." The Cornell Lab www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Common_Yel...

Last year at this time I posted photos of a White Pelican that visited Rhode Island for a short time. I had never seen a Pelican in Rhode Island. The White Pelican is one of the largest birds in North America with a 9 foot wingspan. Here are a few short video clips of that bird last year.
HEAVY SURF AT BEAVERTAIL
Переглядів 799 місяців тому
Many flocked to the shore the weekend of September 16 to witness the power of the sea as Hurricane Lee passed us on its path to the north. I went to Beavertail State Park to see the power and to experience the calm that came after the storm.
AMERICAN BURNWEED - Nature recovering from a severe brush fire in Rhode Island.
Переглядів 339 місяців тому
I visited the area damaged by the April 14th fire on August 31 and found a plant that I knew nothing about, American Burnweed. The flowers, a cluster of silvery hairs, began to blow as the wind velocity began to increase that morning. The scene reminded me of snow flurries, despite the temperature being in the high 70s. This plant grows in disturbed habitats and is sometimes called Fireweed. A ...
LOGGER HEAD BABY SEA TURTLES - The Journey Begins
Переглядів 38210 місяців тому
During our stay in South Carolina this summer, we had the opportunity to see a few baby sea turtles leave their nests. Baby Loggerheads have many difficulties to overcome in order that they survive to adulthood. Most do not. After leaving the nest, the first hurdle is to get across the beach to the sea. A big thank you to the volunteers of the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol for the work that they do.

Oh nice. One of my favourite birds. I had my camera on one a few years back... It was sitting out in the open, singing away for a good minute before it flew away. When it did, I went to stop recording and discovered I hadn't properly hit record in the first place! I haven't had an opportunity to film one since! I just keep hearing them singing under cover of the trees haha
Keep looking, you will ind one again to film! Thanks!
I lived in Canada for over 14 wonderful years in the 70s. I can't tell how excited I was when I saw my first humming bird. Where I worked in Jasper National Park was an old stone building some of our staff had hung humming bird feeders out .I was transfixed watching these amazing little birds . We have many lovely birds in Australia but but my encounter with my first hummingbird will always be in my memory as will the beauty of Jasper National Park . I lived there over 14 years and loved every minute of my life,❤

One of my favorite shore birds. I first saw one at N. Myrtle Beach, SC. Did not have my camera and walked back to the condo to get it. I didn't think they would still be on the edge of the water/beach, but they were still there to my delight. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

Wish the name of the bush was mentioned.
The CUPHEA plant is the one seen in this video that has red narrow tubular flowers.
It is specifically Cuphea-Vermillionaire. It is a hummingbird magnet!
For all those that support bird watching, try reading an original humerous poem about the Hummingbird from the book called Peckish for Poems!
